The Philadelphia Phillies will unveil their City Connect uniforms Friday morning, the club announced.
The unveiling will take place at the New Era Team Store at 10 a.m. ET on April 5, with the Phillies saying that initially that will be the only location in Philadelphia with licensed City Connect merchandise for sale.
That evening, the Phillies plan to host a free block party on Citizens Bank Way from 3 p.m. ET to 9 p.m. ET, a sign of how big of an event the franchise hopes this will be. Among those in attendance will be Shane Victorino, Larry Andersen, Mickey Morandini, Milt Thompson and the Phillie Phanatic. The Phillies will be on the road that evening playing against the Washington Nationals, but the game will be aired on a big screen at the block party.
As far as when the Phillies will actually wear the City Connect uniforms on the field, Friday, April 12 against the Pittsburgh Pirates will mark the on-field debut. The Phillies say that the City Connect uniforms will then be worn for all Friday home games in 2024.
While we don’t yet know what the pants and cap will look like, Paul Lukas of Uni Watch found an eBay listing back in January that appears to be the City Connect jerseys the Phillies will wear. The Phillies didn’t confirm the listing, but the fact that they didn’t shout it down is a pretty strong indication that these are the City Connect threads.
Philadelphia will become the 21st franchise to unveil a City Connect uniform, a program that began under Nike/Fanatics in 2021.
The Phillies are the first team set to unveil new City Connect uniforms this year, but before the All-Star Break the Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers will also release new concepts as well. The Dodgers will become the first team to release a second City Connect uniform. By the end of the season, the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics will be the only teams without City Connect uniforms.
