The Phillies City Connect uniforms are finally here:
The Phillies unveiled the new uniforms with a hype video posted to social media celebrating the frenzied nature of Philly sports fandom.
Here are some initial takeaways:
The font on the “Philly” chest plate, according to a team press release, “is reminiscent of text found on important historical documents in the city and features a subtle pattern inspired by the crack of the Liberty Bell.”
The blue and yellow color scheme is a tribute to the city’s flag.
The “Philadelphia, City of Brotherly Love” etching patch on the side is a nod to, “the illustration style featured in literature common around the time of the revolution.”
The black hats feature the Liberty Bell with a Center City skyline design in black and a white outlining. The two stars on the side of the bell are a reference to the two stars in the Phillies’ traditional logo.
Bryce Harper looks great in it, but that’s not saying much since he looks great all the time.
The tops were initially leaked in an eBay posting in January.
The Phillies will sport the new City Connect uniforms during every Friday home game this season. The on-field debut is scheduled for Friday, April 12 vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Phillies are hosting a block party to celebrate the launch starting at 3:00 p.m. EST on Citizens Bank Way. Special guests include Shane Victorino, John Kruk, Larry Andersen, Mickey Morandini and Milt Thompson.
