The IronPigs narrowly avoided a no-hitter on Saturday afternoon. Only a day later, the Syracuse Mets got the job done in the Lehigh Valley.
Less than 24 hours after right-hander Jonah Tong twirled a seven-inning one-hitter against the Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate in the first game of a doubleheader, Syracuse completed a combined no-hitter in an 8-0 win on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park. It was the first no-hitter in the history of the ballpark, which opened in 2008.
Tong recorded 20 outs without a hit on Saturday while walking only two batters. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, IronPigs outfielder Kameron Misner hit a double to break up the no-hit bid. But Tong retired the next batter to complete his shutout and a 6-0 Syracuse victory. The IronPigs put up runs in Saturday’s second game but still fell 8-7.
On Sunday in the finale of a six-game series, Lehigh Valley put just two runners on base against pitchers Kevin Herget, Saul Garcia, Tobias Myers, Chayce McDermott, Joe Jacques and Zach Franklin. Misner drew a walk versus Garcia to lead off the bottom of the third, but he was put out on a double play in the next at-bat. McDermott walked Keaton Anthony in the seventh. Rehabbing Mets infielder Mark Vientos hit three home runs against the IronPigs in their no-hit loss.
Lehigh Valley (62-68, 27-28 in the second half) has 19 games remaining in its Triple-A schedule (including the conclusion of a suspended game). The IronPigs are seven games out of first place in the International League East in the second half with six teams in between them and Rochester, the division leader.

Well I guess they’re ready for the big leagues now.
