The Phillies are sending outfielder Tommy Pham to the Chicago White Sox, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported. Pham, 38, spent the last two months in the Phillies organization with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The Phillies are getting cash considerations in return, as reported by James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times.
In 44 games with the IronPigs, the right-handed hitting Pham batted .250 with a .772 OPS. He had just one hit in his last seven games with Lehigh Valley.
Pham is expected to be added to the White Sox roster when rosters expand to 28 players on Sept. 1. To be eligible to play in the postseason, players must be on a team’s 40-man roster or 60-day injured list by noon on Sept. 1.
Pham did not have a clear path for playing time on the Phillies, with the emergence of Derek Hill and Bryan De La Cruz as right-handed platoon outfield bats.
The MLB trade deadline was Aug. 3, but minor league players who are not on the 40-man roster are still eligible to be traded.
