Reading Phillies Report

Here is a report on the Reading Phillies from David Hoppman.

The Reading Phillies won last night against Portland by a score of 7-2. Yohan Flande pitched seven great innings – striking out two and walking two while giving up one run on six hits. He recorded his third win of the season. Michael Schwimer pitched two innings of relief striking out three, walking two and allowing two hits and a run.

Offensively, Matt Rizzotti had two hits including a two-run homer, his second of the year. Domonic Brown also hit a two-run homer, his eighth. Freddy Galvis and Kevin Mahar both knocked in a run a piece on singles. The other run scored on a wild pitch.

Drew Naylor tries for his fourth win tonight.

Domonic Brown is going to be some kind of player… his slugging percentage sits at a cool .600 (to go along with a .312 batting average and 7 stolen bases).

Michael Taylor is struggling mightily out in Oakland…

Kyle Drabek is doing ok… not lighting the world on fire but he’s doing well enough that he might earn himself a call-up at some point this year.

Aumont’s numbers aren’t great but he’s doing some nice things… he has only given up 1 HR and has 32 SO in 40 innings pitched. He is walking too many batters but he’s definitely got good stuff.

David was telling me that Aumont was having his typical issues in Sunday’s start – falling behind in the count and having to come in with fastballs and getting hit. His other pitches weren’t really working for him.

The Phillies system (especially Reading) is a hell of a lot better than people seem to give credit.

Rizzotti is going well after 10 AA games; .400 BA, .471 OB, .733 slugging with 2 homers.
