Carlos Ruiz Back with the Phillies Friday

Catcher Carlos Ruiz has been activated from the 15-day disabled list, Phillies Senior Vice President and General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.

Ruiz, 32, was originally placed on the DL on May 8, retroactive to April 28, with lower back inflammation.  He appeared in two extended spring training games and went 1-for-3 with a run scored last night in a one-game rehab assignment for single-A Clearwater.

A spot was opened for Ruiz on the 25-man roster yesterday when the Phillies placed catcher Brian Schneider on the 15-day DL with a left hamstring strain.

Yeah, they wouldn’t bring him back and not play him, especially with Schneider hitting the DL

Thank Goodness. We really need the leadership qualities that Carlos brings, as well as his great work defensively. I don’t see him being a lot of help to the offense as he really was not hitting well prior to getting hurt. But he does bring that special “Choooooooch” dynamic of getting the clutch hit in key situations!

Yay Chooch! Now Cole can finally throw that 1-hitter (into the 8th) I promised last week…

    Howard goes oppo-boppo on Beachy.

I’d be willing to bet that if Chooch caught Halladay the other night that Doc would be 6-1, not 5-2.

    Just sayin’.

I would like to see what the 4 aces’ ERA is when chooch is behind the plate, and what the phillies record is with him starting
