LAST NIGHT:

Here are the links from last nights game, if you’re just catching up. Check out our recap, our video collage, and Mike Baumann’s firsthand account of the game. It’s all great stuff by the people here at Phillies Nation!

TODAY:

It’s a half-lineup for the Phillies as they rest most of their older starters. I would assume this to be a very quick game; Cliff Lee will want to get everyone the hell out of here and in bed early tonight, before the Phillies begin a nine-game road trip. Lee will also throw 125 pitches if possible. Don’t think we’ll be seeing much of the bullpen this afternoon.

PHILLIES LINEUP:

Martinez SS, Brown RF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Ibanez LF, Mayberry CF, Valdez 3B, Sardinha C, Lee P

Your Gameday BeerCorona
What a better beer to have on a hot, sunny day. We get you ready for Memorial Day weekend with an ice cold Corona. Lime, or no lime, it’s about as refreshing as a beer can get – and they go down smooth as hell. Be sure to stay cool if you’re in the stands at the game, but if you’re watching from home, have a few of these and get yourself a cheesesteak from Jim’s or Steve’s.

GO PHILLIES

I just found out Gload had a injury although i figured his lack of appearances an injury was the cause. Through all these injuries the Phils are still holding their own. Today;s line up looks weak Sardine, Mini-Mart an Brown. Brown isnt really hitting all though he gave the ball a nice ride yesterday in the late innings. Last night was an amazing game a crazy game. We need to after another outfielder. I dont see us going far with Mayberry an Brown. Not sure if Brown is ready an Mayberry although a good athlete his bat doesnt seem to great i believe he is destined to be a bencher.

  26. Andrew From Waldorf

    May 26, 2011 at 2:32 pm

    Who runs on the field?

Should be tazered, beaten and given 10 years in jail

If you knew that would happen you wouldnt do it

Eventually one of these people will hurt a player here. ALA Monica Seles
And then it will be taken seriously

But sadly you the average fans access to the sport and the players will have to be diminished after that happens

  27. Morris Buttermaker

    May 26, 2011 at 2:36 pm

If you are a professional athlete and you can’t run away or defend yourself from a drunk/high college student, you probably should not be playing for a professional team anyway. Maybe the Mets will sign you.

  38. Morris Buttermaker

    May 26, 2011 at 2:54 pm

Have you seen the average fan who runs on the field Phillies games? It’s usually a drunk 20 year old who either weighs 115 pounds or 315 pounds. There does not seem to be a middle ground.

Also, they check you for weapons when you enter the game. They are not looking for beers when they pat you down, they are more concerned about weapons. In fact, I think when I went to the game on Tuesday night, they were using metal detectors.

People have been running on the field for years. I don’t under why now it is all of a sudden a catastrophe waiting to happen.

  39. Jeff

    May 26, 2011 at 2:54 pm

everyone said who needs doc when you have lee. they were putting lee on that level. lee is a nice pitcher but not get crazy here. 4-0 lead….that should be the ball game.

Have you gone through security at a sporting event?
Could someone with bad intentions get something through?

I just dont think its funny. Ever seen Monica seles stabbed? And what happened to her career or the fans beating up a third base coach.

they run out because people clap and laugh.

It will go bad one time. Real bad. And people wont laugh anymore and you wont see people runnning on the field anymore because it wont be tolerated.
But then you wont be able to get an autograph before or after the game anymore either.

    this is great

  52. Morris Buttermaker

    May 26, 2011 at 3:11 pm

So, you have cited two examples in which somebody has run onto the play of field and something bad did happen, one almost 20 years ago, and the other almost 10 years ago, and no major changes happened. What type of attack do you want? It’s gone real bad twice already.

If somebody with bad intentions really wants to attack a player, all of the security measures possible won’t stop them. You just said that. So what’s the point of adding more measures?

I went to Wimbledon a few years ago, if you get there early, you can meet all of the tennis players. And at MLB games, you can take your kids down to meet the players before the game.

Maybe the reason you have trouble getting 1210 during the day is because of the tin foil hat you are wearing.

  53. Manny

    May 26, 2011 at 3:11 pm

It’s time for Utley to join the party!

The Seles thing didnt happen here the other was a minor league game.

Keep clapping and laughing and encouraging it.

It hasnt ever happened in america at a major league sport. It will eventually

And when it takes you 4 hours to get into a game you will cry. But then you clapped for your fellow morons running on the field. Your pals

At the community college where you are getting your masters

Do they teach you that after that happens sports in america will change?

do they have a grasping reality class ?

  67. Morris Buttermaker

    May 26, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Raul is using all of the hitting advice he got back when he played in the minors for the Kansas City Royals. You know, back in 2002, they were a minor league team.

    • Andrew From Waldorf

      May 26, 2011 at 4:04 pm

      lol
      OK I made a mistake

I really dont feel like talking about it anymore. I made my point.

I dont feel like typing again that they should tazer every fan who runs on the field

      • Morris Buttermaker

        May 26, 2011 at 4:14 pm

But you didn’t make your point. Your logic was flawed. It was not a minor league team. In 2002 in the Major Leagues in the United States, two people ran on the field, attacked a coach, and a knife was found on the field near where the attack happened. That pretty much sounds like a catastrophe, and everything you have been describing. And changes were implemented after that, but it has not led to a 4 hour wait in a security line.

Last year, a fan ran on the field, and was tasered. The very next night, another fan ran onto the field, and appeared as though he wanted to be tasered. The taser was not a deterrent. The first kid became an internet superstar, and t-shirts were sold making light of the incident. And the guy who ran on the field the second night was mocked on various internet sites.

    • Andrew From Waldorf

      May 26, 2011 at 4:28 pm

Catastrophe would imply a fatality or a players career ending.
I just thnk that the laughing clapping is not good. It should be taken seriously.
But I dont make the rules so really I dont care. I had no problem with security tazering or roughing up people who knowingly willfully break the law.

Within the next 20 years a catastrophe will happen. And things will change for the worse. Like soccer in the middle east or europe.
And you wont clap and laugh when a moron runs on the field anymore.

Thanks for joining in the gameday thread Morris
Hope you come by some more.

  68. Andrew From Waldorf

    May 26, 2011 at 4:02 pm

    @ Manny

check his home and away stats every homer at home all but 2 of the RBI at home
hitting under .150 on the road and over .300 at home

he needs to do this on the road

then it will be a really big deal

he hasnt yet but a pretty seasy road trip coming up

    • Manny

      May 26, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Honestly, who cares? Maybe it would matter if he’d be hitting balls that are barely getting over the fence.. but his homers have been no-doubters, deep to CF and several rows back (like today’s). So I don’t think it really matters and it’ll all average out.

If he does “this” on the road, as you suggest, he’d win the MVP. So don’t get crazy expectations now…

  69. Chuck

    May 26, 2011 at 4:05 pm

Manny, I was thinking ….after this game the Phillies will have 4 more til the 1/3 point. Currently, Raul has 6 HR and 25 RBI. Let’s say he hits another dinger and collects another 2 RBI over those 4 games. …..and I’m being conservative.

That would put him on pace for 21 HR and 81 RBI.

Would that….along with an average of about .260-.270 …..be enough to shut people up. I know it’s not the production you would nesessarily want from a corner outfielder, but given his slow start (basically a wasted month in April)….I’ll take it.

    • Manny

      May 26, 2011 at 4:08 pm

  71. Morris Buttermaker

The criticism of Raul mostly comes from how streaky he is. Much like a lot of the other guys on the team, when he is good, he is red hot, when he is bad, he is horrible.

Iam going to the game next tuesday.
I am happy to see any of the pitchers even Worley now.

I caught Kyle Kendrick 2 times last year. 🙁

But I was there the night the Phils clinched and big Roy pitched so it was ok.

I am hoping Pat can get me into the press box so I can meet Wheeler and get a photo with him and his hair.

  79. Bob in Bucks

    May 26, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Woohoo, everyone hits! (At least today). We survived a tough patch in the schedule and still in first place. I have tix for Sunday at Citi Field. Hope the Phils can break the bad stretch with the Mutts.

  80. Brooks

    May 26, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Alright, the Phils muddled a 10-10 record vs the teams that have a better winning percentage. Assessments anyone? The hitting went through a terrible offensive streak and yet the pitching pretty much stayed the course as we expected (a very pleasant surprise with Worley taking over for JB, doing a fine job) and as a result, the Phils are still atop of the NL East.

With 5 more games left in May, vs teams the Phils have shown they will hit against, the win total for May could be 17 (with 12 losses). That would put the Phils at 35-20, 15 games over .500 at the end of May.

I think I will set my sites on 103 wins this year. Yeah, with what Worley is doing, the resurgance of Raul, Chase on the rise, Brown playing — yep feeling pretty good about this year boys.

    • Lefty

      May 26, 2011 at 7:56 pm

      10-and 10? Let’s break it down.

3 and 5 on a road trip against some of the best pitchers in the league- won 2 of 3 from Fla. arguably the second or third best team in the NL. Lost 2 of 3 to the Braves, lost 2 games to the Cardinals the hottest team in the last ten games by a total of 3 runs. Then came home and split with the Rox, who no longer have one of the pitchers that beat us for the rest of the season. Then we took 2 of 3 from last year’s AL Champions, and took 3 of 4 from the Bruce’s, I mean the Reds. All without different key players at different times. I’m pretty happy with that. And we got Utley and Contreras back this week, get Vic back next week.

      • Brooks

        May 27, 2011 at 7:09 am

The 2 losses to the Cards had me going. Ryan Howard usually loves home cooking but after the first game where he was pitched around, I think he got desparate and LaRusso could sense it.

Now that others in the lineup are hitting (lets hope it conitinues), the 3 game series in St. Louis (June 21, 22, 23) could prove pretty interesting.
