Injury update: The Phillies received a bit of good news today when it was reported that Carlos Ruiz exited last night’s game with cramps, rather than the oblique strain that the team initially thought Chooch was suffering from. The misdiagnosis is a welcome sight for just about everyone involved with the organization, fans included. Ruiz has been, without a doubt, the best hitter in a lineup that has struggled to score runs at times. An oblique strain typically puts a player on the DL for at least a month (Ruiz had an oblique strain in 2009 and missed about three weeks of action). Ruiz is expected to miss only a day or two, including today’s game, with this minor injury.

After dropping the series opener yesterday 3-0, the Phils look to bounce back today behind starter Cliff Lee. Lee has yet to record a win this year, but is having another stellar season. He is currently posting a 3.18 ERA and a 2.99 FIP, both of which are well above the league average.

He’s made 10 starts against the Blue Jays, and 4.23 ERA against them to go along with a 2-5 record. He’s 2-4 with a 4.54 ERA at the Rogers Centre. Jose Bautista is 3 for 9 with a homer against Lee. Opposing him will be Ricky Romero, and he’s made three career starts against the Phillies, going 1-0 with a 2.21 ERA.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Polanco 3B, Pence RF, Thome DH, Victorino CF, Wigginton 1B, Mayberry LF, Schneider C, Martinez 2B, Lee P

Your gameday beer: Labatt Blue

We now move the celebration over to Cliff Lee, and we’ll keep it with Labatt.  It’s not the best beer in the world, but if you’re putting it up against the Buds and Coors’ of the world, this will win out. It’s a little more potent, too, at 4.7%. So instead of reaching for the same old beer you always go for, think about the beautiful glaciers and all of that stuff in Canada and reach for their native brew for a change. Won’t kill you. –By Pat
