Blanton Traded to Dodgers – Phillies Nation

Blanton Traded to Dodgers

As reported on Twitter by our own Pat Gallen, The Phillies have made another trade, this time sending Joe Blanton to the Dodgers for cash OR a player to be named later. Ruben Amaro Jr. implied that the Phillies are hoping to take the player over the cash, and that the Phils are still making moves.

Taking Blanton’s spot on the roster will be B.J. Rosenberg, who was brought up from AAA Lehigh Valley. Kyle Kendrick will start in place on Blanton tonight.

Nice!! I hope the Dodgers are dumb enough to include a PTBNL of the caliber of Domingo Santana…

And it goes from bad to worse… they STILL won’t promote Cloyd, AND they’re letting Kendrick start?!? Please, please, please put me out of my misery now.

Cloyd pitched last night and likely will be called up when Blanton/Kendrick’s next turn comes up.

Blanton had no future here. Kyle, might and they want to run some AAA arms out here and see if there worth it. It sucks but it’s dismantling time.

relax manny my boy. ruby has a plan. all that money we will be able to build this team up. you wait and watch. next season. they will go on a shopping spree.

@jeff i don’t mind the shopping spree it’s a quick way to get better. what bothers me is that if they oversign like they usually do and it doesn’t work out then you’re saddled with contracts like j-bag, howard lee and hopefully hamels isnt on the list. and i’m upset that we didn’t get anyone! not even a servicable player. i don’t care if they trade someone but i expect to get something for it. and we’ve traded possibly one of the best #5 starters in the league. and schnieder is catching tonite? mine frifin mart is still on the team and so is dingleberry! we’re giving guys away and bringing up bad players and activating an old catcher instead of using kratz! i just don’t get their mindset and believe me i’m all for a change. but i don’t understand what they’re doing.

      That would be a CTBNL!

Now we can bring up Cloyd! Hopefully, he’ll blossom like Worley.

ed from what i heard they brought up bj rosenberg. they had just sent him down and reconverted him back to being a starter.this is the part i don’t get ed. they dump blanton for nothing. they could have got a high cieling 2cd baseprospect. the holdup was the o’s wanted us to eat salary. we declined! we then move him to the dodgers.get noyhing. insert KK in to pitch as a starter where he hasn’t fared very well. he’s been good in the pen where we’re weak. then instead of bringing up cloyd they bring up rosenberg who had all but maybe 2 innings up here before being sent down, then they convert him back to starting. where i think he struggled till he found a home in the pen and did outstanding in the minors. WTF i’ve been a big rube supporter gave him the benifit of the doubt cause i think he has a larger plan than a mere mortal like me! but i gotta tell ya ed i’m teetering onthe phils right now i’ve been following them since 1962 i’m 62 and i’ve never seen the likes of this ever. nothing they’re doing right now makes one bit of sence!

I knew this was coming, in fact I hoped for it. Blanton was good the last few games, but was horrible in the first half, I can’t forget those. Hope they get a good replacement in the OF or the bullpen for him. This retooling is good for the soul of the Phillies!

artemis…they got NOTHING! a player to be named later! i agree with you on trading him. but get somebody. at least get someone now so we fans can say just what you did. i wish they would just do the same for howard, utley and j-bag! just do it! might as well dump lee, and haladay too.

Ryne, I agree. Sometimes their moves defy logic. The only thing I can think of, and I’m probably wrong, is that Cloyd must have pitched very recently and that is why they went with KK. But I’m thinking logical here, and this is the 2012 Phillies/Bizarro Phillies so I’m probably completely wrong. Lol.

no big ed i think i heard that cloyd pitched either yesterday or the day before so you may be right. i think he pitched another gem too!

you know i wouldn’t mind if they just admitted they’re dumping salary so they can REBUILD. i just don’t want them to go out and jack up the patroll for some 30-31 yr olds with 3-5 year contracts. we’ll be in the same situation every yr! bring our own guys up and supplement the team with some FA.’s

Plus, Cloyd is 11-1 with the best record at that minor league level. Just saying. : )

    So it’s curious.

Howard is hurt, and won’t earn his salary this year, or most likely any year of his contract.

Utley likely won’t earn his salary either, but his contract will be a huge bargain even if he never plays again.

Rollins will not only earn his contract this year but exceed it, and has a very fair contract. Yet he’s lumped in with the other two.

    Curious indeed.

    P eanu T B utter N L ittle else.

Joe was a good 5th starter, but they ain’t worth much to anyone else unless your name is Zito. Shedding 2 months of his salary, good deal IMO.

Solid outing by B.J. Rosenberg. Set down 6 in a row. Maybe with Schwimmer, Horst, Lindlom and now Rosenberg, the Phillies may actually have a decent pen. Regarding Blanton, maybe Cloyd will be better. He did a nice job this year but they have to see whether Cloyd can pitch now.

Does anyone even know who the O’s were willing to trade for Blanton and cash?

If you don’t, I suggest you stop comparing it to what he actually did get from LA, and stop complaining that he made a bad trade. It may have been a much better deal than he could have gotten from Baltimore, which was the only other team even asking about Blanton.

The Orioles were willing to give JJ Hardy and Adam Jones, and the Dodgers will offer Matt Kemp and Andre Eithier.

Heyman cited Orioles infield prospect Jonathan Schoop as the trade bait.. But the Orioles were not willing to pay the remaining 3 million of Big Joe’s contract. So I guess they picked getting rid of the contract / dollars over getting the prospect?

I never heard this, and it’s still basically rumor, because teams don’t generally let it be known who actually is involved until after the fact. Ever notice how trade rumors don’t always match the final decision?

It’s possible, of course. But I can’t say that I trust Heyman. Something obviously went wrong, and had to be money related to an extent. It’s also possible the Phils’ scouting staff didn’t think too highly of Schoop (if it really was him that was offered), maybe seeing him as a AAAA piece or a utility guy.

I just don’t think people need to be going off half-cocked when they really don’t have all the information for a solid judgement.
