2012 Gameday

Gameday: Phillies (52-62) at Marlins (52-63)

Philadelphia Phillies (52-62) at Miami Marlins (52-63)

Cole Hamels (12-6, 3.08) vs. Nathan Eovaldi (3-7, 4.33)

TIME: 7:10, Marlins Park
Weather: Lower 80′s, mostly cloudy
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Cole Hamels is coming off a complete game shutout against the Braves last Tuesday, and would love to have similar results tonight against the Marlins, a team that he has a 5.21 ERA against this year. The Phillies as a team have lost five in a row to the Marlins, the most they’ve lost to them since 2004.

But the Phillies have been playing decent baseball since the All-Star break, and the legendary (joking) Erik Kratz is filling in nicely for injured Carlos Ruiz. Things are looking not-to-shabby for the Phils, and this series could launch them away from the basement of the NL East for good, or do the opposite.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Pierre LF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Brown RF, Mayberry CF, Frandsen 3B, Kratz C, Hamels P

Allagash White
Your Gameday Beer – Allagash White
This is a really good beer that is fortunately becoming more widely available around the country. The White name lets you know it’s a Witbier – way better than the more ubiquitous Blue Moon or Hoegaarden. It has citrus wheat flavors along with some strong fall scents like pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg which make it a great late summer ale. It is refreshing and smooth and very enjoyable to drink. It pairs well with a sweet chicken dish like Hawaiian or teriyaki style. – By Brian

    OK guys.

All thats left to play for is me winning my bet of the Phillies having a better record then the Mets.

If I win it will pay for my 160 bucks to watch these games.

    We can do this!

    Go phils!

Hamels has one of the sweetest swings and he’s hitting higher than 3 of the starters today.

    3-0 Phils

Mets are idle so a great chance to cut their lead to 2 games.

This is more exciting than any pennant race going.

As of the start of tonight’s game, at 14-28, the Phils have the worst record in the National league in intra division play.

That includes the lowly Astros, and disheveled Cubs.

    That’s really amazing.

I’m watching the Marlins feed of tonight’s game from If You Build It, They Might Come Park.

    Tis a fascinating telecast.

I’ve watched Jerry Lewis telethons that put less energy into raising money for a cause.

Tomorrow night, perhaps they will discuss baseball for the audio portion of the telecast. Wonderful. Kyle Kendrick V Josh Johnson. But in reality, that’s Kendrick’s cup of tea.

Cole has to finish this game. Could be the first time in I dont know how long since a Phils pitcher has thrown back to back shut outs.
    In his last 3 games, 24 ip, 18 hits, 2 walks 2 runs 20 k’s – 0.75 ERA

team is playing as it was designed and at a much cheaper AAV. There’s been some good articles on this site that if you put together the Phils could and should be right bck in the driver’s seat next year.

Simple things first. Frandsen, Galvis and Kratz as. Love it. A superb fielding SS that can hit his weight and play second and third in a pinch. Frandsen has hit over .300 the last 2+ years and has flashed glove. He plays 3rd, 2nd and 1st. Kratz is a righty( a must as the teams backup catcher. Major brain fart with this lefty backup cacther shit). Save $3.3 million and could get a PTBNL for Wiggy is he’s healthy.

That’s the simple part, but a long way to go and 5 more teams to pass.
