Gameday: Phillies at Marlins

Philadelphia Phillies (5-5) at Miami Marlins (1-9)

Cole Hamels (0-2, 10.97) vs. Jose Fernandez (0-1, 1.80)

Time: 7:05 PM, Marlins Park
Weather: 73, Isolated Thunderstorms
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Coming off their victory last night, the Phillies look to get above the .500 mark for the first time this season when they continue their series against the hapless Miami Marlins.

Cole Hamels takes the ball for the Phils after what has been a rocky start to the season in which he has gone 0-2 with a 10.97 ERA. Last year, Hamels performed well against the Fish, posting a 3.07 ERA. He only managed a 2-3 record, however, as the offense took a few of his starts against Miami off. For his career, Hamels has a record of 8-10 with a 3.36 ERA when facing the Marlins. In three games at Marlins Park, he’s posted a 3.60 ERA. The Phillies are looking for a strong outing from Hamels, as he tries regain the form that has made him one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Opposing Hamels will be rookie Jose Fernandez. In his Major League debut last week, Fernandez went five innings, holding the Mets to just one run. He struck out eight in that game and showed the ability to dominate hitters.

Charlie Manuel has deviated from the lineup he’s used thus far for the first time this season, benching the righthanded Michael Young in lieu of the switch-hitting Freddy Galvis, who is making his first start of the season. It’s a move that gives the Phillies a lineup stacked with lefthanders, with the first seven men in the order batting left-handed against Fernandez.

LINEUP: Revere CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Brown LF, Nix RF, Galvis 3B, Kratz C, Hamels P

Whirlwind WitbierYour Gameday Beer – Sierra Nevada Kellerweis Hefeweizen
On tap tonight, we have one Sierra Nevada’s finest brews–the Kellerweis Hefeweizen. What makes this beer so great is that it gives drinkers the best of both worlds. The initial taste is sweet, with a hint of banana and yeast. But as you swallow, you’re hit with an unexpected spiciness that serves as a perfect compliment to the sweet. It serves as a year-round offering, and while it is ideal for a hot summer day, it is equally delicious on a cool spring night. Try pairing this one with a B.L.T. and some potato salad.  – RD

    Another must win.

They are protecting Fernandez so just get to the 5th or 6th and they will take him out.

If this team hits Hamels around. There is a big issue.
    No Stanton again tonight.

I expect even Doc to do well tomorrow.

If not theres a big issue there too.

Enjoy the game. Anyone who wants to see me in the winners circle can turn to

    Go phils!

They are all Must games Andy?
Why take out M. Young when he is having a tremendous run in April?
No fret – I have faith in Galvis coming through.

    Yes all must wins Brooks

According to Yahoo fantsy Young is day to day so there is something wrong.

Games vs Marlins without Stanton almost must be no hitters.

I guess the key to this thing now is with the 4 lefties in a row, the Fish need to be in a position where they can utilize Dunn perfectly timed with that. Even that doesn’t assure a win, but at this poiunt, Fernandez should make it through 3-6 one more time setting Dunn up late. Lotsa baseball to be played, that thinking might not play out.

Fernandez is already a dominant pitcher with 95+ stuff..can’t teach that, and that kind of stuff can shut down any team.

I’ll take a guess the Phils need 2 runs before the 9th to win this.

Hitters count adding to the possibity of an expected Galvis double. Even after giving back a strike.

That Solano throw was one of the most interesting I’ve seen. Saved me a temper tantrum at least. Classic hitting into the pitch. Yuck.

This’d be a good spot for a 2nd in a lifetime 12 pitch at bat by Bennie. Two nights in a row, taking pitches against Dunn’d be smart. Get something you can hit, go for it. But getting the edge on their lone lefty pre RyHo’d be good.

excellent at bat. Hell, excellent plus. Cmon Jimmy.

Normally, you give the edge to Dunn in the coming inning, Chase, RyHo, Dom, maybe Nix, who’ll be pinch hit for if Dunn’s around. But by the time Dunn gets to RyHo, he won’t be gassed, but a little weaker, so the 8th doesn’t look as bad as it could. Still time to pick Jimmy up for the failed at bat.

Course holding the Fish here isn’t being overlooked.

Tommy Hutton. My man. Just told us RyHo has 34 dingers against the Fish. Left out that like 33 of ’em are against Volstad..

Good job by Piece. On 0-2.

I would say Aumont gave it a helluva shot. Not like he walked the first guy and it was all downhill. That would have sucked. Disappointing result, good ballgame.
