Paul Hagen in the Hall of fame. Living proof of the adage that 90% of success is just showing up for work. I never considered him to be more than merely pedestrian.

It has a lot to do with do many teams having played an odd number of games to this point. but as of now, there is only 1 team in the entire majors at exactly .500.

So just for fun, we’ll take a guess that the winner of this game winds up as one of 8 at .500 as we head into Monday.

They gotta throw out tape of that RyHo at bat. Might as well have been hitting off a brutal lefty.

    April 7, 2013 at 2:01 pm

How’s that for a perfect inning. Geez. 3-4 RISP, only 1 at bat without solid contact, and Hamels who threw 7 strikes in 13 pitches in his 1st goes to the mound with a 4-zip lead.

    April 7, 2013 at 2:09 pm

Good contact, good catch, and there is life in right field.

Interesting deal by Ruben. Young man can fly, too.

Meanwhile, the CY in the NL is already over after last night, but this is rough going for aces day. Dickey, Stras, Verlander and Shields have already given up 3 or more by the 3rd inning.

    Get ’em while you can.

No, I forget what it is, there is a number they use as a guideline, but it’s in the 40s. I wanna say its 43K, but I don’t remember.

Not exactly likely against Shields, but this would be a great time for a Dom bomb.

Now this is vintage Cole we need a string if three four innings with some zeros. But do I hate those BB throw strikes

  12. Ken Bland

    April 7, 2013 at 2:45 pm

60 throws, 34 strikes for Cool. They used the word laborsome 4 times per sentence when Doc threw. Wonder if Cole might see his name in the same sentence. Bottom line? Shutdown inning. That’s what counts.

They really need to stop leaving them on base. I’m getting nervous. I was there on Friday, when they were up 4-0 in the fourth and then lost 13-4. This piddly 2-run lead is not going to get the job done.

  14. Ken Bland

    April 7, 2013 at 2:57 pm

3 hits in the first at bats with RISP, 1-4 since. Will it come back to haunt Just scoring the 4 in the first (so far?). Tough to get a firm feel. Certainly risky business though.

  15. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 2:58 pm

You need to catch that ball. I thought this kid was no bat good glove what is up even JMJ would have had that

  16. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:03 pm

WOW how is that not a strike

  17. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:05 pm

Can Cole just not locate his FB or Kratz just afraid to call for it You can get these guys outThrow strikes

Question: Did the Phillies overpay for Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels? And what will that cost us in the future? KC looks very dominant, has a great farm system and does not overpay. Of course, they haven’t won squat in decades. Go figure. Damn if I know anything except the lump in my throat is growing. Time to rub the rabbit’s foot and bite the nails.

Hall-of-Fame writers are usually rewarded not for talent, but for longevity. After all, Bill Conlin made that HOF grade and he did not deserve it either.

I can’t wait to see Hopward’s at bat this inning. It’s like masochism, I guess, but it can’t get any worse

  22. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:33 pm

Is Aumount not I the bull pen why are they running Durbin out there again to get hit around. I love Charlie and usually don’t second guess him but this is just silly

  23. Jeff of Nova

    April 7, 2013 at 3:34 pm

Well here comes Durbin…. let the flood gates open up

  24. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:34 pm

And now he is afraid to throw a strike

  25. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:35 pm

Durbin is just not a major league pitcher any more

  26. "Big Ed" Delahanty

    April 7, 2013 at 3:35 pm

I agree. Why Durbin again? Give Aumont a shot. The way this game has been, who knows whay will happen.

  27. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:36 pm

Can we just cut this guy already he is really worthless

  28. Tracey

    April 7, 2013 at 3:36 pm

Ugh. Deja moo: the strange feeling that you’ve seen this bull before.

  29. Ken Bland

    April 7, 2013 at 3:37 pm

All I can say is what a ridiculous series. You don’t expect to watch your worst nightmare repeat itself 48 hours later interrupted by poilar opposite.

    Tres weird.

  30. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:39 pm

Has Aumont pitched at all this year

  31. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:41 pm

And why the double switch You could expect Durbin to go back out thete

  32. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:42 pm

Especially with JMJ with a RH on the mound

  33. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:44 pm

Maybe it is time to serif Charlie is going senile

  34. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 3:45 pm

I guess I should shut up.

  35. Jeff of Nova

    April 7, 2013 at 3:46 pm

So if Durbin is on this team come tomorrow morning then someone needs to be fired… seriously

    • hk

      April 7, 2013 at 4:34 pm

Two someones, the GM who signed him and the manager who keeps using him. This is Chad Qualls 2.0.

  36. Ken Bland

    April 7, 2013 at 3:46 pm

    Beta,

I’m curious if I may ask, how long have you been a fan from the point where you felt you had more than just passing interest in the game and felt you had a decent grip on what was going on?

  37. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 4:10 pm

Can we pretty much come to the conclusion that Horst was a fluke last year and we need to bring up somebody else Horst and Durbin are all done even Quills could pitch one out of three outings without giving up runs

  38. Ken Bland

    April 7, 2013 at 4:11 pm

21 runs scored by the Phils so far this year, 41 given up. Real time manual calculation.

Since I was about 10 years old minus a couple years in college were I was busy drinking and chasing girls why do you ask I am 47 now

    • Ken Bland

      April 7, 2013 at 4:19 pm

Primarily curious. Just kinda get the impression we have some different views, so wondered what level of experience you were coming from. Not that I’m right or you’re wrong, and I don’t feel like writing much about it now, but I have a pretty different opinion about things like Horst and Durbin. Perhaps we’ll pick it up some other time. Thanks for answering.

  40. Tracey

    April 7, 2013 at 4:19 pm

Ah, there’s Aumont. No pressure; this game is already lost.

  41. Ken Bland

    April 7, 2013 at 4:35 pm

So Friday, down 9, the remaining fans got the rally towels out in the bottom of the 9th. Them it was funny. Now, down only a 5 run homer, they probably won’t.

    Go figure.

6 with the Mets and Fish next. Bryan Harvey and Jose Fernandez to pitch for the opponents. We shall see.

  42. Betasigmadeltashag

    April 7, 2013 at 4:39 pm

Maybe it when they are being used but the Phil’s do not seem like they have guys who can come in with guys on base and let them in

  43. Tracey

    April 7, 2013 at 4:42 pm

But I’m pleased that after falling so far behind, they showed signs of life in the end.

  65. Jeff of Nova

    April 7, 2013 at 5:03 pm

Well they had some clutch hitting in the 9th I just feel they take 2-8 off….still early but a lot of work to do….

    Cut Durbin

    Demote Horst, Valdes

    Promote Stutes and Diekman

Change the lineup alittle not sure how but something has to change

  66. "Big Ed" Delahanty

    April 7, 2013 at 5:04 pm

    Tracy,
Also glad the offense battled back! Kratz fought for a little there, wonder how Chooch would have fared? Michael Young had a monster game and Rollins HR was clutch! I thonk Young has found his swing. Cole struggled and the combo of Durbin and Horst disappointed again. We will get the next one!

  67. Bart Shart

    April 7, 2013 at 6:49 pm

My grandson said the Phillies should have a 4H fair, where they get rid of all players whose last names begin with an “H”. Based on the season so far, we might not cry to rid ourselves of Howard, Hamels, Horst and Halladay. Just a silly thought from a nine-year-old.

  68. veeejay

    April 7, 2013 at 7:05 pm

Ain’t no puttin lipstick on this pig. They were given a gift on Sat. night else, they get swept, at home, by the dregs of the AL.
