It is no secret that Cole Hamels loves facing his hometown team.  Tonight could be exactly what he needs, as it has the potential to be a confidence builder for Hamels.

The fact is, Hamels has been a Padre-killer throughout  his career.  He is 8-2 with a 2.15 ERA in 88 career innings against the Friars.  He dominates in pitcher-friendly PETCO Park.  In 42.2 innings at PETCO, Hamels  is 4-1 with a 1.27 ERA and 0.82 WHIP.

What will it be tonight?  The beginning of a turn-around for Hamels?  Simply just a solid start?  Another disappointing outing?  Another bullpen explosion?  Or a continuation of a lack of run support for the starting pitcher?

GO PHILLIES!

Coles gives the lead back and the offense will do nothing for the rest of the game

There is no reason that Rollins should be batting lead off. Revere got hot when he was in that spot and then was moved for Jimmy. That move has since cooled Revere off and Jimmy just keeps popping up. I’ve been a supporter of Manuel for years, but he has got to realize that this is not the Rollins from 2007/2008.

    Just a bad team.

For some reason the GM and the fans want to hoard the home grown players.

But an import is able to be traded or not re signed.

Victorino Werth Worley Paplebomb can be moved.

But Howard Rollins Utley Hamels we will be burdened with forever.

    Thanks again Ruben.

You always think outside the box.
    Not.

If the Phillies really want to improve the outlook for the remaining season, they should lower beer prices at the stadium.

I play fantasy baseball and basically the other owners are morons.

I picked up Nick Franklin for his major league debut.
They have no respect because I got him off waivers.

Some other idiot drafted Dan Uggla in the 12th round.

These fantasy people rate Uggla over Franklin.

Which makes me laugh and is why I win fantasy every year. Because Id drop Uggla for Franklin in a second.

But these idiots cant comprehend it.

Then I deal with the fact that my major league team has an idiot as a real life GM.

Who GMs on a fantasy baseball level.

To Ruben Uggla is better than Franklin.
Until Franklin is washed up. Then he will be a long term option.

This will not end until hes gone.

End of rant and end of this game and series and WC trip.

Phillies were in total panic mode when they signed Hamels to the extension. This clearly isn’t working. But they are stuck with him much as the Giants got stuck with Zito and Lincecum. I think we will see some good games from Hamels but it won’t be like last year.

For whatever reason, Hamels has shown that he has trouble dealing with success. Remember what he did in 2009 after winning the World Series MVP?

I’m still trying to wrap my head around and figure out what is wrong with Hamels! In the rare instances when we give him a lead, he can’t hold it. [Massive sigh].

He’s yet to hold a lead this year. In both wins, the winning run was score after Cole had been removed for a pinch hitter.

Also, I think both wins were against the Mets.

One against the Mets. One against the Marlins.

Does Rollins always have to swing 3-0 and ground out or pop up?

If he didn’t though he wouldn’t be the peoples champion.

    Can they win a game?

Its the Padres with a skell pitcher vs Hamels.

The “Core” of this team needs a little better performance than 1 for 14 with 4 k’s. Rollins, Utley and Howard are the keys, doesn’t matter if Cole is still counting his money, if these guys dont get some wood on the ball – look for less than 80 wins.

It almost seems the Padres don’t want to win this one swinging at that crap

OK, 2 fo r22 for the top 4 men in the lineup. Hey, Howie got some wood on the ball vs a leftie!

I am sure he is going out to purposely pitch badly. I am sure he goes out with the intention of losing every game he pitches. I am sure he just doesn’t care about the team he won a championship with and the team he re-signed with because he doesn’t care about the city of Philadelphia or its fans which is where he and his family resides. I am sure he is mentally challenged and has forgotten how to pitch or maybe he never could pitch. I am sure he is absolutely thrilled with having the most losses in the league and a high ERA and all the bull crap the fans are throwing at him. I am sure he doesn’t have a will to win.

I don’t know what is wrong with a pitcher of Cole’s talent or if he is just having an off year. It happens and I am not going to overreact to a rocky 3 months of pitching and declare that he is the reason the team is where it is.
