   Seriously though, I did kinda get the feeling from Jimmy after they won the WS that he wouldn’t really lose any sleep if he left Philly.

   What if, they flip Rollins to the Giants for say, Lincecum. Then sign Rafeal Furcal. Just a thought, but I’m all about keeping Rollins.

   Undeserving MVP, world champion like the rest of the team, running your mouth isn’t much leadership and I guess he is a potential retired number.

   Not saying we should trade him, but let’s not make it look like it is the end of he world. IF we can trade him for a good package of prospects, and then sign Furcal or one of the lesser SS’s via FA, Amaro has made good.

   Doesn’t matter who is playing, we will beat the Mets asses anyway.

   I read this rumor too…I don’t see it happening because Rollins is home grown talent and who’s gonna replace him?Eric Brunletts a bench player,Jason Donald hasn’t even been in the majors yet so you don’t know if he’ll make it in the major…That would leave Rafel Furcal,but his defense isn’t that great at SS…It always good to listen to offer,but it’s not happening.

    Paul DePodesta wrote an interesting blog entry back in July on Brian Giles, and in it he addressed the isshttp://www.philliesnation.com/archives/2008/11/rumor-rollins-is-available-for-trade/ue of “untouchable” players. Here’s the relevant quote…

    “…I will say that we would entertain trading anybody if we felt it would make us better – I don’t believe in the concept of “untouchable”. Every player has a threshold that would force our hand. Certain players may very well have a threshold that is completely unrealistic, so for all intents and purposes, they’re untouchable, but nobody is truly untouchable.”

    If the Giants offered Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, and Pablo Sandoval for Rollins, that would probably meet the threshold that would force the Phillies’ hand. But it’s like when the Eagles told teams they’d deal McNabb in exchange for three 1st round picks — they’d do it if someone were crazy enough to offer that much, but in reality, it’s not going to happen.

    In order for Lincecum it would have to be Rollins and an top tier prospect perhaps Drabek or maybe Savery. In which case I would probably do it if and only if we had an immediate replacement for shortstop/leadoff. Be it Furcal or what have you

    I liked Aaron Rowand, so personally, I think we could get him back. The only other question would be – who would be the shortstop?

    Rollins shouldn’t go anywhere, what he said about the fans was just him venting, while I loved having Rowand on the team he decided to chase the money and left to SF who had no chance of winning. JRo is the heartbeat of the Phils even if he did have an off year

    JimmyK, I almost agree. owand did not chase the money, no one offered him any here if I recall.

    Honestly, I do not to trade anyone, if you all read my other posts, I am actually for keeping EVERYONE and re-signing as necessary.

    My GOSH, I cannot type tonight. Disregard my last two posts, it should have read:

    JimmyK, I almost agree. Rowand did not chase the money. If I recall no one offered him any here as they had no place for him. Right move at the right time, although I would require him if we get rid of J-Roll.

    Honestly, I do not WANT to trade anyone, if you all read my other posts, I am actually for keeping EVERYONE and re-signing as necessary (Moyer, Eyre and yes – even Burrell).

    Lincecum is a stud. Jroll has no where near the value of him. Rollins is past his prime in trade value but I would never like to see him leave. He lives right next to me and he’s a great guy to talk to and it would be a sad day to see him leave philly. I don’t think he will be going anywhere soon unless the phillies are satisfied with just one championship and not looking to repeat

    That was Rowand’s one shot in his career to sign a big deal. If we had offered it or come closer he might have stayed. I don’t blame him for taking that deal with SF. If you knew it was your one chance to sign a big one wouldn’t you do it?

    Rowand wanted years. we offered him 3 years $39 mil with an option for a 4 year they offered him 5 years $55 million.

    I couldn’t care less about what Rollins says about the fans. He wasn’t being malicious. Just win, that’s the only thing I care about and they did that.

    Obviously everyone is tradeable for the right price. I think when people are saying “don’t trade Rollins” they’re really saying “don’t trade Rollins just to trade Rollins”.

    I would trade him for Cain and then sign Furcal, but that’s not going to happen.

    Earlier in the year I was on his case a lot, but in all seriousness, as much as I like donald as a prospect, Im pretty sure youd at least need to get another year or two out of rollins before seriously thinking about replacing him with jason donald. If they do trade him, the haul better be unbelievable, and im talking solid everyday LF replacement and someome ready to step in and AT LEAST be a solid 4th or 5th starter.

    the cardinals need a shortstop, what do they have in their system besides Colby Rasmus? id he isnt an achor of the trade the phone is getting slammed down on the reciever immediately.

    also, why would you think about trading rollins when furcal and orlando cabrera are the top free agent shortstops? the only reason i could think of is to empty out someomes farm system while providing them a monetarily cheaper alternative to the free agent market.

    not totally against it, but theyd better tread carefully and jason donald better be ready before you even think about this.

    Phil is right- we did offer Rowand the same amount per year just one or two years less. And he did chase the money. I mean, why leave a team who was on the cusp of greatness (everyone thought they would do better than in 2007) to play for a bad team as SF. Money!

    We have heard everything that we were close to trading Howard to LA, Conlin hinted that the Phils are playing Donald at 2B now, and Rollins is available. All rumors. The Giants aren’t giving up Linceum for ANYONE on our team.

    Rollins is our sparkplug and would be virtually impossible to replace in the field and lineup. Furcal obviously chokes in high pressure situations. And he did this with the Braves before he committed 3 errors in one inning against us. He isn’t a prime time player. Keep Rollins unless somehow the Phils can get Roy Halladay for him (plus one or two prospects).

    Like many have said, don’t trade him just to trade him but as we saw at the beginning of the season (and even it parts of the playoffs) if someone can cover his defense — the team doesn’t lose that much offensively. Vic a more natural leadoff hitter, Donald or Bruntlett could bat 2nd, Utley, Howard, Werth (who might hit there all season), Dobbs/Jenkins, Feliz, Ruiz, Pitcher — is not a bad lineup. If they were to get a right handed power LF and a major league starting pitcher (or 2-3 minor leaguers who are AA/AAA) then Amaro would be stupid to not at least consider it.

    The Phillies aren’t the same without JRoll.

    He JRoll is traded you might have to shake alot up. He really is the leader here and you cannot make that huge of a trade without it hurting other levels of the team.

    However for pure speculation:

    JRoll/Carrasco——> Rays
    Shields/Bartlett/Wade Davis—> Phills

    I agree….Jimmy is definitly a part of this teams history, and is without a doubt the leader of this team. It wouldn’t feel the same without him. I couldn’t imagine anyone else leading off this team come opening day, or anyone sharing a better chemistry with Utley on the field. But one thing we have to understand is that this is a business, and only very few players actually play their whole entire career in one city. Since these are just rumore, I think we should all just be open, atleast just to listen to the possibilties.

    Phils can’t afford anybody this offseason and if they trade rollins for a top notch pitcher or matt holliday type their payrolls going to go up even more. They just ran the numbers on 610 and with a base salary of 6 mil taking over for burrells spot. They are at 143 mil with raises to everybody except scott eyre who would take the 20% pay cut. That’s a 40% increase from last year just keeping everybody together besides burrell. Gonna be tough unless they increase their payroll to 160

    No way. whetehr many like to admit it or not, he is the team leader. He’s stellar on defense. He’s never going to have a year like 2006 again, thats not the point. The point is that he’s a big reason for the Phils getting a ring. Keep him.

    The Phils would be losing a lot of speed with Rollins gone.

    I like Donald to take over at 3B next year, or the year after, and make the big league club this season as a utility infielder/pinch hitter.

    Wip is dead wrong 143 is not where they are at with there raises. remember right now they have over 23 million off there payroll. burrell 14 million tauchi1 million gordon 5 million and Tome 3 million is now done. counting 5 million more for lidge, 500,000 for rollins, utley 4 million more jenkins 3 million doesn’t add up to 143 million

    Forgot myers goes to 12 million up 3.5 total added on is 16 million this is not counting if they are going to resign Moyer or eyre, nowhere near that number you are saying they would never approach that number

    I’m a Giants fan and anyone who thinks the Phillies can get Lincecum for Rollins is an absolute idiot. Of all the Giants pitchers, Sanchez is available, Cain is “untouchable” unless for an amzing offer, and Lincecum WILL NOT GET TRADED.

    I heard a lot of Cain for Prince Fielder rumors, which would be a huge mistake for the Giants. Lincecum is the right-handed Cole Hamels and won’t be going anywhere.
