Gameday: Phillies (58-40) At Diamondbacks (43-58)

Philadelphia Phillies (58-40) at Arizona Diamondbacks (43-58)
J.A Happ (7-1, 2.97) vs. Yusmeiro Petit (0-5, 7.68 ERA)
Time: 9:40 p.m at Chase Field
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 108
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
It’s been a busy day for the Phillies and they haven’t even played a game yet. They’ll attempt to sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight.
J.A Happ survived the trade rumors–for now. He is coming off his first loss of the season after allowing five earned runs against the Cardinals. Happ has had a solid season and looks to build a new win streak tonight against a Diamondbacks’ lineup that has scored only one run off a Phillies starter.
The Phillies have a good chance to score runs off Yusmeiro Petit, who has very bad numbers. In addition, if the Diamondbacks defense continues to play poorly, the Phillies could be looking at double-digits in the runs column.
Your Gameday Beer – Sawtooth Ale
Reader Chris recommends tonight’s beer, Sawtooth Ale from the Left Hand Brewing Company in Colorado. It comes in honor of the Phillies new look rotation – chock full of lefties. This medium-bodied amber ale is well balanced with nutty, caramel flavors. It’s also a bitter, so if you’re bummer about not getting Halladay this beer is for you. Left Hand recommends pairing it with grilled salmon. – By Brian

Jayson Stark is speculating that Happ will be the odd man out of the starting rotation…WTF?
July 29th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Stark is an idiot if he thinks Happ will be out of the rotation, Pedro has not even pitched more than an inning in rehab starts, I really think he was just a safety net, now they made a trade for an A pitcher, they will give him his Million dollars and send him on his way if he can not pitch in the pen. Any word on Lee first start in Phillies pinstrips
July 29th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
Pete Happy has the night off, Dobbs at third base, Charlie really likes to load up on the lefties, and for all the crap about Dobbs he is batting .287 not to bad for a pinch hitter. GO PHILLIES
July 29th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
and what is up with no one on here last night too late for you people to stay up or what. I love these late east coast starts I actually get to watch most of the game live instead of DVR.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Jeff D. – Perhaps its the 200 inning rule with young pitchers (a line drawn probably out statisical coincidence) or that Charlie is loyal to his guys and that leave the newbie out of it unless moyer put ups horrible number for the rest of the season.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
another night with no one on here, what a bummer too late, or just exhausted from trade deadline, or partying because we got Lee
July 29th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
jeff d.- that’s “probably out of statisical…”
July 29th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
What happened with the 1st inning? 2 ER in 1 IP? WTF.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
Well at least it looks like he settled down. Lets hope for the stellar D-Backs defense to step up again, LOL (Sarcasm.)
July 29th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
light night on the Gameday chat, eh? These west coasters pushing people away?
July 29th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
So.. if Lee does start on Saturday it would be against Tim Lincecum.. how great of a pitching match up would that be seriously?? Let’s hope we can get something going soon.. still plenty of game left
July 29th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
How could we be shut out so far through 3 against this scrub?
July 29th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
have we seen this d-back’s pitcher before?
July 29th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Im still jacked that we have Cliff Lee now without totally sacrificing our future. AND a RH power bat off the bench! Ruben really did some work on that one. That was slick.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Whenever the Phils face a guy pitching for his job, the pitcher turns into Cy Young. I don’t get it.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
There always seems to be one guy that we cant seem to get out. Looks like Upton will be a problem all night.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
I know a lot of people are peeved that Happ may end up back in the pen, but it may be for the best in the long run.
If RH Pedro ends up returning to form big if, then he has to go to the rotation, especially since he has crazy postseason experience.
Moyer could go to the pen, but not sure that would be best.
We shall see
Lets go boys give Happ some run support
July 29th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Ryan Howard should have a patent on swinging at sliders that far out of the strikezone.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Thank god the Phillies dont face scrub pitchers in the playoffs. Wed be toast.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Greg V. – pitcher vs. batter when the two have never met…advantage to the usually the pitcher…so if we haven’t seen him, it might 2or 3 line-up turnovers before we catch up with him…
July 29th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
come on this guy has a 7+ ERA make something happen
July 29th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
he used to play for the Marlins, we have seen him before
July 29th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
“What happens is, you jerk off the ball.”
-Sarge Matthews
July 29th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Brian of CO – so should jayson werth. did you check that link out about pitch mechanics
July 29th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
I am privliged to have the D backs announcers tongiht. Seriously the best in baseball.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Seven strikeouts for this AZ pitcher? Seriously?????
July 29th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
man 3 K’s that was pathetic
July 29th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Before the start the of the game his ERA was 7.68, his ERA will be under 7 in the next inning.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Yikes….this is starting to turn really ugly tonight. That was a terribly pathetic inning. Although I’m not sure why we even look at a guy’s ERA coming into the game. It obviously has no effect on whether this team can hit the guy or not. We just have these strikeout happy games every once in a while (that game against that Richmond dude on the Jays comes to mind).
Hopefully we can keep them close and knock a few out of the park.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Well Manny, lets just hope that the strikeouts dont keep going at this pace. If they do, the D-Backs pitchers may end up striking the Phillies out almost 18 times tonight. (cringe)
July 29th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Rough game. Phils are hitting like it’s tee ball. Inside and low to the lefties. Sit on it.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
psujoe, The problem is the Phils arent hitting at all. You know its a horrible night when people sigh in relief that Dobbs popped out and didnt strike out.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
This is shaping up to the be the quickest Phils game of the season.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
When will we hear that the trade is offical? Right now all I read is “pending medical evaluations”
July 29th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
It doesn’t help that this guys zone is massive. The pitch to Howard in the first and that last pitch to Happ were not strikes. That pitch to Happ was at least 6 inches off the plate. The guy didn’t even frame it well.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Well good news this guys will not go the distance he has 80 pitches
July 29th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
so they will have to the pen maybe we can hit them
July 29th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Oh Jimmy….I guess I can give you a pass since you have one of our two hits tonight.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Petite opponents have a 378 batting average against 3rd time through the line up
July 29th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
This is even pathetic, this is down right embarrasing.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Great, do far through the 3rd time through our line up we are batting .000
July 29th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
I’m sure Cliff Lee is watching this game and just salivating at the heavy hitting offense he will be pitching for. Hahaha….ah only the Phils would turn in an offensive performance like this after making a big move. Definitely still in the game, though. We seem to score runs without even trying sometimes, so I’m sure we will get something across.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Wow, this guy has completely shut down our offense. Can’t even get a hit.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Did we even get an Earned run yesterday, or were they all off of errors?
July 29th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Wow I feel bad for Happ now. 6 IP 2 ER. Unless the offense decides to wake up and actually hit the little white thing they call a baseball, Happ will get the loss, and he really hasnt pitched that bad. Not so good in the first inning, since then, he has held them down.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Happ made one mistake
July 29th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Ok guys, we got a game with the Diamondbacks tonight. And that only means one thing. Bad news for the Diamondbacks.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Yusmeiro needs to blow up sometime soon
July 29th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
whohoo
July 29th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
If I was an opposing ace, I would hate facing the Phillies. Not just because they can hit me, but because they can then turn around and make our scrub starter look like Nolan Ryan.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Cmon Raul..smack that ball!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Ruben for the Ashburn
July 29th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
THERE WE GO!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
I love this AZ defense.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
*were
July 29th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Everybody makes errors WOOHOO!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
alright Howard and Rauuul!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Lets hope this is the inning.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
I feel good with Werth coming up…and then Mr. Clutch Feliz
July 29th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
shane could have caught that blindfolded
July 29th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Was that close to being caught? This is what makes the Phillies scary, IF they can keep it going. Because Werth DOES have power, (if he has a major league at bat rather then his periodic little league at bat)
July 29th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Come on Werth
July 29th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Oh wait, it’s Dobbs..not Feliz..
July 29th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
Come on guys, lets at least get one in.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Could be worse, it could be Bruntlett!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
ugh, all you had to do was get Howard home!!!! WTF
July 29th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Here is what I said the other night in regards to facing Haren.
“The Phillies hit well against good pitchers. It is the “making his first start in the majors in 2 years” pitchers that give the Phillies the most trouble. They will probably knock Haren out of the game in the 4th inning.”
July 29th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
little league at bat
July 29th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Yuck with a capital Y….hopefully Dobbs can pick up JDub there. That swing made me shudder.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
I have a bad feeling about this. typical Phillies on an off night. 2nd and 3rd no outs, and wont get a single damn run in.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Is Francisco here yet???????
July 29th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
I should have added that “may be taken out of the rotation soon” guys give them trouble too.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
come on Dobbs just a long fly ball
July 29th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
They all wanted Roy Halladay and now they’re upset… spoiled brats! jk
July 29th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Can the Phils hit a breaking ball tonight??? This is frustrating
July 29th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
I don’t know who had a worse at bat, Werth or Dobbs.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
EMBARRASING!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
Wow, our offense is bad tonight. Not playing smart baseball. A fly ball would have gotten Howard home.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
man this is ridiculous, just freaking hit the ball in play 2 on 2nd and 3rd no out and now we are down to last out with no runs
This has nothing to do with pitching
July 29th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
CMON CHOOOCHH!!!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
That was two UTTERLY PATHETIC outs. A ground ball more than likely scored one. A deep fly ball could have. what do they do? 2 freaking strikeouts.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
How many 85 mph pitches straight down the plate are they going to look at?
July 29th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
That guy’s pitching pretty well, though….
July 29th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
If they walk him…. STAIRS??
July 29th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Pedro!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Matt Stairs time
July 29th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Alright we need another clutch knock from Pete Happy here. He has to take one.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Chooch’s hitting .160 since June 9…I didn’t know that!
Good game Happ!
Feliz is up… Weird that it’s not the lefty Stairs, but I’m down with Feliz and his clutch! They could leave Feliz in the game too
July 29th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Time to start believing in the Phillies again. You can still score runs with 2 outs. Nothing wrong with that.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
ewww feliz
July 29th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Even though the Phils have been winning at a rapid pace which we haven’t seen in quite a while, there has been a consistent theme of not being able to drive guys in on 3rd with less than two outs. I can think of at least 6-8 instances within the last 3-4 weeks where the Phils have floundered in this role with sharp grounders to third or first, weak pop outs, or the typical Philly out: the K. This inconsistency will catch up with them later in the season when it reaallllyyy matters. I almost feel like it will definitely happen every time the situation presents itself… The Phils either relax too much by taking good pitches ( a la Werth) or they get too crazy and swing at shit.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
I thought our offense was smarter than this. They had NO OUTS!!!!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
wow suprised by Pedro here but I am sure Charlie is bringing him in for Dobbs, sometimes he is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO predicatable
July 29th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
blah
July 29th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
oh my….not the Phils night. That was a tough pill to swallow.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Ugh… couldn’t Werth or Dobbs do just that????!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Well, Werth crapped the bed with men on, which means he will hit a solo homerun before the game ends. We can look forward to that. And we will have the top of the order coming up, and they are all pretty much due. And for as bad as the Phillies have played tonight, they are only down by 2.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
should have brought in Pedro for Dobbs and hit Stairs for Happ, we would have scored at least 1
July 29th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
in 43 innings pitched Petit had 36 strikeouts. tonight in 6 he had 8. Also keep in mind, the pitcher they put in is also a scrub. So to stay with the Phillies way tonight, it would take the 3rd go around to get a hit off of this new guy. If that holds true, this is going to be a shut out. Shy couldnt Werth or Dobbs hit a fly ball like that? This is beyond embarrasing.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
No Stairs there? Ugh.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Mark Grace said best outing for the starter and the reliver for the whole season. Like I said before. Thank god the phillies dont face SKELL pitchers in the playoffs.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
I can’t believe they didn’t even get one run. They look tired and a lot of them have had some bad a bats tonight.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
But its almost like when the team can’t hit Charlie can’t make smart moves, they are all drinking the same juice
July 29th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Nice going Scott!
July 29th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Okay I am done watching, that was pathetic,
July 29th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
whoops
July 29th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
This team can field, hit homers, but cant score with runners in scoring postion. Werth swung at a pitch 5 feet off the plate. Make contact. The only reason we have won these games, they have given us these wins with there poor defense.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Can’t believe our offense got shut down by a terrible starting pitcher and couldn’t even score a run with two in scoring position with no outs.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Very true, Jeff of NoVa… it’s pretty weird if you think about it.
But I’ll give them a pass today, especially after the way we’ve been playing lately …
July 29th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
I know we have played great ball lately and are one of the hottest teams, but this is one of those games you need to go in the locker room and break shit and get their attention.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
it weird…alot pitchers always make such bad throws in these stituations…esp. to 2nd base…usually ends up in CF
July 29th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
They are really phoning in the performance tonight. Talk about taking a game off.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Why in the world would you bring Stairs into hit there? They had a lefty ready to come in and so you would have just wasted him. If you then counter with Feliz against the lefty we officially have no one to pinch hit later in a tight game other than Bako, Bruntlett, and Mayberry. Charlie made the right call there.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Well they have played 11 straight and 13 of 14 days only a rain cancellation helped them
July 29th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Just when you thought it couldnt get any worse. Watch, man on 2nd, 1 out, this crappy team will hit him in.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
T-Mac was right: they’ve been using the longball lately, but the D-backs have given them a taste of their own medicine tonight. This is the one thing of which they need to be careful as the season goes on. Relying on home runs can keep a team smokin’ hot for a while, but some pitcher down the line – usually a breaking ball specialist – will render it ice cold just like that. Petit does have some decent stuff, but the Phils made him better tonight than he has been. Situational hitting is the way to go. We just saw them take too many juicy pitches and swing at some clunkers. The take-everything approach to Haren worked last night: to attempt a comeback in the remainder of this game, they might need to try something different. The Lee acquisition gives the Phillies a surplus of pitching, which is not a bad thing; now they have the opportunity to evaluate their offense and come up with actual strategies to maintain consistent, not necessarily bombastic, offensive output.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
I totally disagree Jeff….why overreact to a single loss? You still win the series if you take a loss tonight. That doesn’t deserve an angry post game meeting. Let’s be real. A loss is a loss.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
Cmon on guys .
Was it over when the Germans bombed pearl harbor?
I think we can come back.
And if not 19 is still the most wins ever for this franchise in a month. with 2 games left to play. This isnt a huge deal that they are throwing a clunker. Its going to happen. And its going to happen quite a few more times this year.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
It’s too bad Sam Perlozzo (3rd base coach) didn’t wave Howard in from 3rd before esp. since there was a shitty relay throw in from centerfield… Playing the what if game: if they threw home to get Howard out, he would have been safe and Raul would have gone to 3rd with no one out. Raul would have scored then and the complexion of this game would have completely changed. I blame this game on Sam Perlozzo.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
no he didn’t he should have brought in Feliz for Dobbs, Dobbs has barely touched the ball tonight.
None of the guys on our bench are any good right now
July 29th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
mg52….good luck trying to sell a different offensive strategy to a team that just won a WS with their current strategy and are 7 games up in their division with their current strategy. Oh, and they have scored the most runs in the league with their current strategy. We know they are streaky and we know it comes with the territory. But even with poor performances like tonight they are still the best team in the division so why mess around?
July 29th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Ok, got the top of the order up, time to get something going. The Diamondbacks are not that good. And they are trying to sit on a 3 run lead. That is nothing.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Jeff, if he brings in Feliz for Dobbs against a righty and Feliz strikes out or pops out we would have crucified Charlie. You know that’s the truth.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
not overracting by a loss, and we haven’t lost yet.
Just stating bad decisions in the game by our boys.
We can’t win all of them, but we sure in the hell follow them like we expect them too:)
July 29th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Ahh crap! Eric Bruntlett. Game’s over. everyone can go to bed now.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Thunder Lips please tell me you aren’t serious….what are you guys drinking tonight. Good gracious.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Well I think the towel just went in when Bruntlett PHs for Vic
July 29th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Eric Bruntlett- The baseball equivalent of a punt.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Cant Believe how big this Rauch is for Arizona Wheels said he is the tallest pitcher in the Majors at 6′ 11″
July 29th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
The Beard is 10 for 79 this season…. Make it 10 for 80, yikes. I’m going to bed
July 29th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
Why does Bruntlett even bring a bat up to the plate with him?
July 29th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
of course he is not! We are having fun picking this fantastic performance a part.
sense the sarcasm
July 29th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
I am drinking. Did i just see bruntlett as one of our last 5 outs?
bitch away
July 29th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
Manny + Jeff of NoVa. – its not so weird, and i am assuming we haven’t this guy Petit before, but in these stituations, when the two have never faced off, pitcher has the advantage…its not a lock or anything it seems to hold true alot of the time. plus he threw alot of off speed stuff which if the guy throws for strikes ties us up. sinkerballers and off speed guys to a phillies line-up is often kyrptonite
July 29th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
Why is Shane out of the game? And why is Bruntlett hitting?
Francisco can’t get here fast enough. Someone see if we can charter an old Concord jet to fly him to Philly.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Just got back from the Reading Phils game, Drabek was signing autographs before the game, and he couldn’t wipe the smile off his face, happy to be staying, no doubt.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Tim Rauch is as tall as Eric Bruntlett is terrible.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Hahaha, I was completely joking on my Sam Perlozzo theory. Just trying to add a little humor to the post with all of this negativity
July 30th, 2009 at 12:00 am
I really wish we would get rid of Bruntlett. He does nothing.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Shane has a bloody nose…
July 30th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Dave-i saw vic in the dugout… looked like he had a blood nose, how? I don’t know
July 30th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Yeah he needs to flip the plastic folding table with all the gatorade cups on it. it is imperative that they come back tomorrow and win in SF.
For now, staging a late comeback would be nice. Like how it would be great here if Ryan Howard takes Rauch (junk bullpen slop outcast from the Nationals years ago) out of the yard.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:01 am
Now they have seen Rauch a lot he pitched in Washington for several years.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:01 am
Tim Rauch:tall::Eric Bruntlett:terrible
July 30th, 2009 at 12:01 am
Rauch has good stuff. Was closer here in Wash a bit when chad cordero would get hurt.
whatever happened to that guy?
Bruntlett should just be a forfeit. Or at least lean in and stand on the plate. take one for the team like Chase does
July 30th, 2009 at 12:01 am
I know what I’ll be eating for Thanksgiving this year: an Eric Bruntlett
July 30th, 2009 at 12:02 am
Ok lets hope for some late inning magic from Mr Ibanez.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:02 am
no benching Howard
July 30th, 2009 at 12:02 am
RAUL PLEASE HIT ONE OUT
July 30th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Rauch ex-Nats. seen him before..
July 30th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Miles, calm down, my friend. I’ve never come down on you like that for any comments you’ve made. I never will, either; that isn’t what this blog is all about. All I’m saying is that their offense was good enough last year to win a title, but the pitching came through for the most part in the playoffs and that Phils have to keep making adjustments to maintain their high level of play. Remember: teams are going to be coming after them, especially with the playoffs near, just because of what they accomplished last year.
You and I can agree, however, that this cast of characters should be an excellent fit for the newest Phillie.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Victorino had a bloody nose. The doctor said he would not get as many nosebleeds if he would just keep his finger out of it.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:04 am
ugh, can’t even get one!
July 30th, 2009 at 12:04 am
Andrew,
Yes, it would’ve been over if the Germans had bomb Pearl Harbor. LOL
July 30th, 2009 at 12:04 am
Gotta love the strike zone. too bad moyer isnt pitching with this umpire. Hed have a no hitter every time.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:04 am
I think they have two little holes left after the Lee-Francisco trade.
1 – Can they get a utility infielder who can at least do something at the plate ONCE IN A WHILE?
2 – It would be nice to have another reliever good enough to come in later in a key situation and get people out. You can never have enough power arms coming out of the bullpen in the playoffs. I dont trust Romero since hes come back and I would like another option there aside from Romero and Eyre from the left side. Grabow would be cheap probably, thats fine with me. Mad teams are after Sherrill so I doubt theyll get him at this point.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:05 am
crap….another borderline call hurts us tonight. time to start a new streak tomorrow folks. they have a good staff so we will be fine.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:05 am
well we can’t win every game, still got Werth-Dobbs-Ruiz in the 9th
July 30th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Phil’s hitters: 12 K’s tonight… Good night for real this time.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Okay maybe Ibanez hadn’t seen him
July 30th, 2009 at 12:06 am
It sounds like they are counting on Myers being the power arm to add to the pen. I would be surprised if the Phillies made another move before the deadline.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Goddamit, that 3rd strike to Ibanez was way out of the zone.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:07 am
Mophan if youve never seen animal house call netflix asap.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:08 am
That will end up with Werth- k Dobbs- ugly K and Ruiz will ground out
July 30th, 2009 at 12:08 am
Man thought that one was outta here bounced back in though
July 30th, 2009 at 12:09 am
LMAO, I knew I heard the from somewhere. Thanks for the reminder.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:09 am
That was a seed
Who is pitching?
July 30th, 2009 at 12:09 am
The ump has been calling that outside strike all night, the Phillies hitters have yet to figure that out. That has been their weak point all season. They do not make in game adjustments very well.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:09 am
I think they will do something in August.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:09 am
I just checked and since June 16 Bruntlett is 2-31 and 1 of those hits was off of Paul Janish, the Reds shortstop, and the other one was a bunt base hit. Is that even possible?
July 30th, 2009 at 12:10 am
Well hopefully we can get some guys back from DL so this guy can go back to American Legion ball!!
July 30th, 2009 at 12:11 am
Werth is going to hit a solo home run, and then the Phillies will have 3 horrible at bats. Stairs strikes out to end the game.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:11 am
True, in game adjustments are critical. Phillies have a hard time adjusting to different scenarios. Don’t know why that is. Anybody?
July 30th, 2009 at 12:11 am
That is BAD. Rlubens gotta get someone else in there who can look like a professional at the plate. Francisco helps the bench a LOT. But Bruntlett cannot hit major league pitching, its a good thing he can play every position.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:11 am
anyone else still want halladay?
Halladay
Lee
Hamels
Blanton
Happ
haha sometimes its fun to be greedy
July 30th, 2009 at 12:12 am
We need to option Bruntlett or have him pack up and leave the City limits and bring Miquel Cairo back up
July 30th, 2009 at 12:13 am
UMPS got the call right cleary a double
July 30th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Does anyone know where Flande went, he was #34 two weeks ago at Reading and tonight Escolona was wearing 34??
July 30th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Geoff, it is a terrible thing that Bruntlett can play every position. If not, we could just cut him. But since he can play every position, he will have a spot on the roster.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:15 am
Stuart-yeah, i do
July 30th, 2009 at 12:16 am
Well Escalona got demoted and he may has seniority over Flande so maybe he got to claim the number. I’m pretty sure they are both still at AA.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:16 am
Stuart, I said that two nights ago about the runs. Wish we could trade three of those extra runs for tonight. Wait, let’s just call Ruben. I’m sure he will be able to do that for us. He got Lee without losing major prospects.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:16 am
sadly he doesn’t play any of those positions well at all
July 30th, 2009 at 12:16 am
I love how wheels explains that if the ball hits the top of the wall and goes over it is a homerun. Noooo really I didn’t know that!!!
Thank you mr. Point out the obvious
July 30th, 2009 at 12:17 am
No halladay. Takes the whole farm system.
Phils can easily win it all with this roster.
Bruntlett game winning hit game 7 at yankee stadium. I can see it now.
Did i mention I was drinking?
July 30th, 2009 at 12:17 am
HA, Miles – that was a great stat to find. I can’t believe no one in the front office or in the dugout can straighten him out, can you? I never like to browbeat a player, but what does it say about this guy if his last legitimate hit came when Michael Jackson was still alive and when Chris Coste was still on the Phils’ roster?
July 30th, 2009 at 12:18 am
I have qualls in fantasy I jsut lost my save oppourtunity
thanks Walker.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:18 am
That is BAD. Rubens gotta get someone else in there who can look like a professional at the plate. Francisco helps the bench a LOT. But Bruntlett cannot hit major league pitching, its a good thing he can play every position.
The Giants are going to have a pretty good lineup now. I think they WILL win the wild card and you are potentially looking at the Phillies’ NLDS opponent.
Rowand (healthy?)/Torres
Sanchez
Sandoval
Garko
Molina
Renteria
Winn
Velez/Lewis
July 30th, 2009 at 12:19 am
UT OH
shane is hurt and bruntlett in center
Now i really need to drink
July 30th, 2009 at 12:19 am
who is sent down for Lee? Register?
July 30th, 2009 at 12:20 am
Mark Reynolds home run last ngiht was the longest one in MLB this year.
He is singlehandedly winning me fantasy.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Shane left with a knee contusion….shit. I guess its good we got Francisco because he will probably have to start now and we will move Werth to center if Shane has to sit down.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Was that why there was a delay? I’m at the mercy of MLB Gameday. Can’t afford to lose Shane.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:21 am
Id presume Resigter for Lee, Mayberry for Francisco
July 30th, 2009 at 12:22 am
Thankfully Ruben just got a guy who can get on base as a 4th outfielder and be serviceable.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:25 am
9th. Let’s gettem’ PHILS!
July 30th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Bruntlett in center for the rest of the year?
Shane has a knee bruise. With the standings and situation I dont mind any of the core guys getting some rest. Whats important is Sept and Oct. I also like a 6 man rotation for a month!
July 30th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Thanks, Miles, I wasn’t sure about that. They brought him in late in the game and everyone was insisting it was Flande because he was still listed as # 34 in the program, but I didn’t think they’d bring in a starter for relief, although the guy next to me said they do that in the minors.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Morris – i think your right…and this isn’t defense of brunlett per se. Is it me or are all these young prospect teams (particularly in the NL) who, other than the Pirates can’t field a lick…although since the Pirates traded Jack Wilson to the Marniers and Sanchez to Giants, i expect to see those errors skyrocket. About the only thing going up for Buckos other than there losses. Clemente is rolling over in his grave…
July 30th, 2009 at 12:29 am
That “How to Field like the Washington Nationals” vhs tape is really paying off for the D-backs.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:30 am
At least dont get shut out. And set up a save situation for qualls
July 30th, 2009 at 12:31 am
oh it is qualls in a non save stiuation
I hate managers
this kills me fantasy . no win situation
July 30th, 2009 at 12:32 am
shameful fielding….okay sport broadcasters should be banned from using the word “athletic”. Is this new guy an outfielder? Werth’s got the speed for CF unless this guy is capable.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:34 am
3rd SO of the year. it happens
no biggie the day was a win day
lee vs lincecum sat better be game of the day on fox
July 30th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Morris-narrated by Adam “the donkey” Dunn. you make me laugh…still chuckle at “chase utley, the man farts excellence” i think that was you.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:34 am
What a pathetic “effort,” The Phillies played that game like an NBA team. Maybe they just like San Francisco a lot and wanted to get there ASAP.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:38 am
NBA team – now it’s my turn to laugh, my man Morris!
July 30th, 2009 at 12:38 am
Adam Dunn should just wear hockey goalie equipment in the field and focus his energy on not letting the ball get past him.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:40 am
the phils pull a pathetic performance quite a bit. At least they try to get ti all out of thier systems in one night.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:43 am
I like Utley a lot, and think he is an amazing player. But it drives me nuts how nobody ever criticizes him. So that sounds like something I would say. My other line about him is that his strikeouts can cure cancer.
I stopped watching the NBA years ago because of how often teams just take the day off. A home game after a long road trip was always the worst. The team always looks like it would rather be doing anything than playing basketball. That is what the Phillies looked like tonight. They could have blown the game open in the 1st, Rollins on 2nd with no outs and Shane with a 3-1 count, and it did not work out. The Phillies just put out no real effort after that.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:49 am
Morris-if ever there was a case for the DH, Dunn: tall but too clumsy for basketball, football – too slow and not big enough, hockey-comedy event of the year, soccer – heart attack
Maybe Pro-Wrestling or boxing with Conseco
July 30th, 2009 at 12:53 am
What was that garbage I just watched? The Mets?
July 30th, 2009 at 12:56 am
What a “snoozer” of a game. It is a shame that the Phils had to lose one to an inferior opponent. Have to win these games against weaker teams. The offense went to sleep tonight. Werth swings and misses at an outside ball four pitch and what can you say about Dobbs. I guess you could say that he looked better striking out than Werth did. Let us hope that the offense does not carry this kind of performance into Frisco. Happ pitched well enough to win on the road.
July 30th, 2009 at 12:58 am
yeah in regards to Utley worship….I was at the Padres the other night and i think the same applies to Ibanez…. he catches a routine fly ball and people think it the second coming of Christ…I just can back from the can and heard “Rauuul” and thought he launched one and was pissed to have missed it…nope, fly ball out
July 30th, 2009 at 1:01 am
I mentioned that about Utley last week. People got all sensitive. They’ll jump on J-Roll/Howard in a heart beat though. That you can bank on. I love Utley, but he’s not perfect. Not mad about the loss one bit. After that Baltimore series the Phils looked dead. Now look at them. Amazing!
July 30th, 2009 at 1:14 am
Utley is probably the best phillie ever. Better than schmidt because of positions. He does it all. Fielding, hitting, getting hit by pitches.
A true gamer. Reminds me of Rose with a better skill set.
No i dont think i can criticize him.
July 30th, 2009 at 1:15 am
repeat!- no one is sacred in my book.
July 30th, 2009 at 1:18 am
Utley reminds me of the great Chicago Cub second baseman and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg who the Cubs acquired from the Phillies. I do not know if I would rank Utley at this time as good as Sandberg was considering overall performance. Sandberg was a bit more of a clutch hitter.
July 30th, 2009 at 1:22 am
andrew no true one bit. Yes Utley is my favorite Phil now and probably will be my all time favorite Phillie. But everyone be ctr.Come one now. You sound a little brain washed dude.
July 30th, 2009 at 1:23 am
excuse the typos
July 30th, 2009 at 1:28 am
Andrew you rate 2nd higher than the hot corner? No way.
July 30th, 2009 at 1:43 am
repeat! – agreed 3rd base is harder to field esp. with the throw to first.
July 30th, 2009 at 1:58 am
Third base is not a defensive position. Second is.
You put Mark Reynolds and Greg Dobbs and russell Branyon at third.
Give me a break.
Utley is sandberg with better stats. And wrigley is a hitters park also.
Utley is an all timer. Enjoy him people.
July 30th, 2009 at 7:21 am
So sad that Happ actually has his ERA go down and he loses, can we say record means nothing
July 30th, 2009 at 7:50 am

I really loved this post. You explain this topic very well. In bringing Medical House Call services to patients, the hands of time are essentially turning back. I remember how medicine used to be practiced, before busy doctor’s offices, complicated insurance policies, long lines at clinics, rushed office visits, and crowded emergency rooms. I have noticed that somewhere along these channels of exasperation, doctors began to lose sight of what mattered most… their patients. I remember when the doctor and patient were able to develop dependable relationships through Medical House Calls and had all the time necessary to discuss, examine, diagnose, and treat their condition. The idea behind developing this type of practice model was to minimize the understandable aggravation that both patients and physicians have grown accustomed to in busy todays medical practices. Medical House Calls makes a doctor visit comfortable and relaxed in your own surroundings.

Enjoyed reading this write-up, thanks for discussing.
