Phils Exercise Rollins’ 2011 Option

In some “we saw this coming” news, the Phillies have picked up the option on Jimmy Rollins’ contract for 2011. He is due $8.5 million, an absolute steal for the best glove man at his position in all of baseball. Two seasons from now will be the final year of a five year, $40 million deal (with ’11 option) that Rollins signed before the ’06 season.

If my math is correct (sorry, I’m a journalist major), then the Phillies will have approximately $112 million allocated to 13 players for the 2011 season, including $55 million to Roy Halladay, Ryan Howard, and Chase Utley alone.  The bank has been broken.
