Week in Review: 1/10 – 1/16

Lots of posts this week from the Nation. I hope you were able to keep up. If not, that’s ok too. That’s what Sundays are for.
-Former Phillies GM Ed Wade did yet another switcheroo with a pitcher who the Phillies recently DFA’d. Wade acquired Sergio Escalona for minor league infielder Albert Cartwright.
-Phillies prospect Phillippe Aumont will once again be heading back to the bullpen, a year after the organization tried him in a starters role for Double A Reading and High A Clearwater. PN’s Minor League contributor Jay Floyd breaks it down for you.
-The Phillies signed former first overall pick Matt Anderson to a minor league contract. Anderson was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1997.
-Finally a right fielder signed? Well yes, sort of. The Phillies agreed to a one year deal, and avoided arbitration, with Ben Francisco.
-Lakewood BlueClaws Travis Mattair gives us a peak at the journey back after taking a year off from baseball in Vol 1 of Moose Tracks.
-Phillies pitching prospect Jake Borup stopped by and explained how he feels So Close, Yet So Far Away.
-Also check out Phillies Nation’s newest “The Vet” shirt and don’t forget you can still purchase tickets for the PSWA awards dinner.

Around the division:
It has been pretty light in the news department for the rest of the NL East. The Nationals are looking for a utility-type player to back up Danny Espinoza. The Mets and Marlins are signing guys to minor league contracts. New York will be discussing arbitration numbers for Angel Pagan and R.A. Dickey this week. It seems the Braves briefly discussed, internally, about bringing back Andruw Jones. Like I said, not much going on for the teams who didn’t sign Cliff Lee.

Phillies Nation has been bringing Phillies fans together since 2004 with non-stop news, analysis, trade rumors, trips, t-shirts, and other fun stuff!
