Qualls Traded to Yankees

After being designated for assignment last week, the Phillies have traded Chad Qualls to the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations.

Qualls appeared in 34 games, putting together a 4.60 ERA. After finding out he’d been DFA’d, he asked Ruben Amaro to trade him. The GM obliged and got it done rather quick.

Qualls said he thought he was turning things around and wasn’t pitching all that bad lately, but obviously he was watching a different guy. In his last outing, he allowed three runs in one inning against Pittsburgh on June 27.
