Report: Phillies Asking Teams About Hamels

What can the Phillies get for Hamels? (AP)

The Jim Thome trade was a minor one, but also could be the start of an overhaul. This could be the end of the Phillies as you know them.

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, and backed-up by Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Phillies are calling teams asking about their interest in newly-minted all-star Cole Hamels. According to a tweet from Rosenthal, they’re asking for a major haul in return.

Now, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll trade Hamels, but they have to do their homework here when it comes to who can afford him and what they could possibly get in return.

By not locking him up earlier, the Phillies now run a real risk of losing Hamels and getting nothing in return.
