Phillies Rip the Mets, 16-1

Wow. That’s all you can really say about the Phillies 16-1 win over the Mets to finish off the sweep in Queens. They put together 21 hits and stay afloat in the NL Wild Card race.

Ryan Howard knocked in five runs, four of them on a grand slam in the ninth inning. Chase Utley drove in four runs. Juan Pierre went 5-for-6 with five singles and Jimmy Rollins had three more hits, staying red hot.

But – there’s always a but – the Cardinals beat the Astros, so the Phillies are still four games back for the second wild card with just 12 games to play.

Simply, the Phillies are running out of time. Unless they get some help, going on a nice run here isn’t enough. They need the Cardinals, Brewers, and Dodgers to start biting the dust hard.
