Quinn leaves game for Reading with leg injury

Early in a game that turned into a disappointing extra-inning loss for the Double-A Reading Fightins, the team lost its lead-off man to an apparent upper leg injury.

Center fielder Roman Quinn was en route to first base, running out his second hit of the night in the bottom of the second inning in Friday’s contest against Akron, when he began clutching his upper left leg.  Quinn could not put weight on the leg and was assisted off the field, according to

Reading Eagle reporter Mike Drago, who also updated that the team’s manager Dusty Wathan did not provide any official word on the ailment following the game.

The 22-year-old, who was the Phillies’ second round draft pick in 2011, sports a .306 batting average with four home runs, 15 RBI and 28 stolen bases in 57 games for the Fightins this season.

Quinn, a speedy Florida native, missed a portion of last season following off-season surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon on his right leg.

Phillies Nation ranked Quinn as the number 4 prospect in the Phils’ organization this year.

Reading lost the contest by a score of 12-11 in 12 innings after blowing a five-run lead in the 9th inning.
