Gameday 2018: Giants (19-18) at Phillies (21-15)

A four-game sweep? It’s possible! The Phillies have crushed the Giants all week at Citizens Bank Park. Now it’ll be up to Vince Velasquez to pitch well enough, and for the offense to come through once more. (very J.P. voice) It can happen.

Gametime: 1:05 p.m.

The lineup:

  1. Hernandez – 2B
  2. Altherr – RF
  3. Herrera – CF
  4. Hoskins – LF
  5. Santana – 1B
  6. Franco – 3B
  7. Kingery – SS
  8. Alfaro – C
  9. Velasquez – P

Pitchers: Vince Velasquez (2-4, 5.14 ERA) vs. Ty Blach (3-3, 3.60 ERA)

Blach has pitched relatively well this year, outdueling Clayton Kershaw on opening day and recently subduing the Braves’ hot offense. The game will be the Phils’ third Facebook game of the year (that’s where you can watch it; otherwise, go to 94WIP). Also, it’s #ThrowbackThursday, which means powder blues.

Your Gameday Beer: Last night I covered an event in New York City and rode the train home. You can drink beer on the train, so I opted for a Two Roads Two Juicy. My goodness. Hoppy with a perfect balance of soft citrus – pineapple, orange. I was floating. On a train!

Then I got home and watched the Sixers lose. Damn. Hey, good season, Sixers. Next year they’re leaping over the Celtics.

Go Phillies!

With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
