Gameday 2018: Mets (18-17) at Phillies (22-15)

After shoving aside the dust that is the mangy San Francisco nine in four games, the Phillies are looking for actual blood. Strap in, friends, and get the popcorn ready, because first place isn’t just a mirage teasing us from afar, it is real.

In come the Mets. Let’s beat them to a pulp.

Gametime: 7:05 p.m.

The lineup:

  1. Hernandez – 2B
  2. Altherr – RF
  3. Herrera – CF
  4. Hoskins – LF
  5. Santana – 1B
  6. Franco – 3B
  7. Kingery – SS
  8. Alfaro – C
  9. Arrieta – P

Pitchers: Jake Arrieta (3-1, 3.15 ERA) vs. Steven Matz (1-3, 4.23 ERA)

I’m sorry, but how does it feel to be seven over .500, in a tie for first place, and greeting a major rival with JAKE ARRIETA on the hill? Bottle up this feeling right now. Just do it.

Same lineup as recently. It has worked.

Your Gameday Beer: Okay. I want a big beer tonight. And I want something to match how I feel. Let’s do an old favorite, Arrogant Bastard. I must’ve missed Arrogant Bastard becoming its own brand, breaking off from Stone Brewing Co. (but really not breaking off because I actually spoke to Greg Koch through Stone Brewing Co. folks in 2017). It’s complicated. Anyway, it’s still the same old strong ale that makes you feel things. I feel things today. Like a Phillies win. Let’s go.

Go Phillies!

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
