Brandy Halladay: ‘We ask that you allow Roy to rest in peace’
Wednesday, the National Transportation Safety Board released their findings on the plane crash that killed Philadelphia Phillies icon Roy Halladay in November of 2017.
The report concluded that the Baseball Hall of Famer had a mix of varying levels of Zolpidem, Amphetamine, Morphine, Fluoxetine, norfluoxetine, Baclofen, Hydromorphone and Ibuprofen in his system when he fatally crashed his Icon Aircraft A5. NTSB’s report also noted that Halladay was flying his plane in an irresponsible manner shortly before the crash.
Thursday, Halladay’s widow, Brandy, issued a statement in response to the report.
“Yesterday’s NTSB report on Roy’s accident was painful for our family, as it has caused us to relive the worst day of our lives,” Brandy said in a statement Thursday obtained by Bob Nightengale of USA Today. “It has reinforced what I have previously stated, that no one is perfect. Most families struggle in some capacity and ours was no exception. We respectfully ask that you not make assumptions or pass judgement. Rather, we encourage you to hug your loved ones and appreciate having them in your lives. As a family, we ask that you allow Roy to rest in peace.”
Since Halladay’s tragic passing, Brandy has become the picture of strength in the baseball world. She spoke at his public viewing, which was held at Spectrum Field, the Spring Training home of the Phillies. Additionally, she gave moving speeches when he was posthumously inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame in August of 2018 and the Baseball Hall of Fame in July of 2019.
The Phillies planned to retire Halladay’s No. 34 on May 29, though COVID-19 will force that event to be postponed. Whenever it happens, Brandy – along with Roy’s two sons, Braden and Ryan – is expected to be in attendance.
