Phillies reportedly sign veteran starting pitcher

The Philadelphia Phillies have a deal with veteran right-handed starting pitcher Chase Anderson, per Robert Murray of FanSided.

Anderson’s contract being completed is pending a physical, Murray notes. Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer says that it’s a major league contract, one that will pay Anderson $4 million.

In 10 games with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2020 – seven of which were starts – Anderson posted a 7.22 ERA and a 6.16 FIP, so it was a pretty disastrous campaign. Still, in 167 career starts, Anderson has a 3.98 ERA, so there are certainly worse options to take a flier on. Between 2016 and 2019, Anderson posted a 3.83 ERA and 4.70 FIP in 590 innings for the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Phillies don’t have much in the way of certainty behind the trio of Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler and Zach Eflin.
