Final: Rangers 4, Phillies 2

Texas’ Brad Miller and Matt Moore, each members of the 2021 Phillies, played a large role in handing their former club its third straight loss on Wednesday afternoon and sweeping the season series.

Miller put the Rangers on the board with a two-run single in the second inning and Moore tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to down the Phillies 4-2 at Globe Life Field.

After Miller, the Texas DH and nine-hole hitter, plated two runs for the Rangers with the help of some poor defensive play from the Phillies defense, Kyle Schwarber responded with a two-run home run in the top of the third to tie things up.

Kole Calhoun then stepped up for the Rangers, singling home a run in the bottom of the third and driving another in with a double in the fifth.

The left-hander Moore entered in a high-leverage spot in the sixth, stranding two runners with two outs with a strikeout of Didi Gregorius to hold the 4-2 lead. The veteran then handled the seventh for Texas as well.

The Phillies went down without much of a fight in the final two innings.

Shibe Vintage Sports Starting Pitching Performance

  • Defensive miscues hurt Phillies starter Zack Wheeler, but he still limited the damage despite lacking his best stuff. He struck out eight over 4 1/3, allowing seven hits and four runs, only two of those earned.
  • Rangers right-hander Jon Gray allowed only two runs in 5 2/3, both coming from the Schwarber homer. He left some trouble in the sixth, but it was cleaned up by Moore.
