The Phillies added a familiar name to the bench.

They have signed infielder Josh Harrison to a one-year deal, according to his agency MSM Sports. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the deal is for one year and $2 million. Since he’s on a guaranteed deal, it’s very likely Harrison will begin the season with the Phillies on the 26-man roster. He’ll join Edmundo Sosa and Garrett Stubbs as bench locks.

The right-handed hitting Harrison signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies in 2020 and competed for a bench spot. The Phillies went with Neil Walker over Harrison that year, which turned out to be a poor decision. He went on to sign with Washington, where he slashed .291/.363/.431 with nine home runs and 52 RBIs with Kevin Long as his hitting coach. Harrison was traded to the Athletics at the deadline in 2021 and signed with the White Sox in 2022, where he played 112 games.

The signing adds some depth to the Phillies infield. Harrison’s primary position is second base, but he also spent time last year at third base, shortstop and left field.
