Phillies Injury Updates: Dylan Covey placed on IL

The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

• Dylan Covey (low back pain)
• Status: 15-day injured list
• The Phillies announced on Saturday that Covey was placed on the 15-day injured list with low back pain. He has pitched only one time since Sept. 19. Luis Ortiz was recalled to take his spot on the roster. He’ll likely eat some innings for the Phillies this weekend. The injury will keep him out until the NLDS.
• Along with the announcement of Covey’s IL placement, the Phillies also recalled outfielder Weston Wilson and optioned Rodolfo Castro to the spring training complex. (Last Updated Sept. 30) — Destiny Lugardo

• Rhys Hoskins (torn left ACL)
• Status: 60-day injured list — Could return for World Series
• The Phillies first baseman underwent successful left ACL reconstruction surgery the morning of Thursday, March 30.
• Rob Thomson told reporters on Sept. 28 that Hoskins could travel to Clearwater, Florida to face live pitching during the middle of next week (likely during the Wild Card Series). If he returns this season, it will likely be during the World Series, if the Phillies make it that far.
• He has been taking batting practice on the field. Thomson said on Sept. 26 that Hoskins is taking 75-80 swings a day and hit “seven or eight” home runs in batting practice that day. Hoskins is also running the bases. If Hoskins returns, he’ll serve as either a DH or pinch hitter.
• “I’m just looking at his swing and making sure he’s free and easy and not forcing anything. He really looks good in BP,” Thomson said on Sept. 28.

• Andrew Painter (right UCL sprain) 
• Status: Full season MiLB injured list — Likely out until 2025
• Painter underwent successful Tommy John surgery on July 25, which was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The procedure comes with an estimated 15-18 month recovery timeline. (Last Updated July 26) — Tim Kelly
