When things aren’t going well, Trea Turner is all ears.
Some players tend to shun the noise when they’re in a slump. As Kevin Long puts it, Trea Turner is a tinker and an adjustment involving his back hip and knee suggested by the Phillies analytics department and Long a few days ago has helped him break out of the worst funk in his career.
“It’s hard to visually see things, but with the technology now, they can tell you to a degree what things are positioned, so it’s kind of something that I thought [about] in the past, but maybe overlooked because on video, it looks the same or looks similar, but when you use technology, you can kind of break it down a bit,” Turner said after Monday’s game.
Per the Phillies, Monday marked the first time in Turner’s career he hit multiple home runs as part of a four-hit game. He’s batting .318 with four extra-base hits in the month of June.
“When I’m struggling, sure I’ll try anything,” Turner said. “I don’t care. Kevin knows that. I’m not scared to try anything. I’ll go stand on my head up there. I don’t care. I don’t care what it looks like, it’s just about getting the job done. So when you’re going good, it’s the opposite. I don’t really care to hear a lot of that stuff because why overthink it at the same time. I think there’s always room for both.”
