Aaron Nola turned in a strong outing, Edmundo Sosa came through with two key hits, J.T. Realmuto threw out two would-be basestealers and the Philadelphia Phillies still needed some late-inning heroics to defeat the Miami Marlins Tuesday.

Sandwiched around two tremendous defensive plays in the top of the fourth inning, the typically light-hitting Edmundo Sosa delivered two of the biggest hits of his career.
Sosa got the scoring started with a home run reminiscent of another right-handed hitter who shares a last name with in the bottom of the third inning:
The 26-year-old infielder then led off the bottom of the sixth inning by once against igniting an otherwise stagnant Phillies offense with a leadoff double.
After Sosa advanced to third base on a wild pitch, Alec Bohm hit a ball to deep left field, which Brian Anderson got behind and made a tremendous throw to home plate.
Initially, Sosa was ruled out by home plate umpired James Hoye. However, upon further review, the call was overturned, not because Sosa beat it, but because it was determined that catcher Nick Fortes blocked the path to home plate before the ball lead him to that spot. This was one of the clearest examples of the unintended consequences of the controversial Buster Posey Rule:
To their credit, the Marlins re-tied the game on, ironically, a sacrifice fly by Anderson that scored Charles Leblanc. The run was charged to Brad Hand.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Anderson slipped in left field, and instead of catching a Bryce Harper pop up, the ball dropped and the reigning NL MVP advanced to second base. After an intentional walk of Realmuto, Jean Segura came through with a walk-off single:
With the win, the Phillies improve to 74-61, snapping a three-game losing streak. Meanwhile, the Marlins drop to 55-79 in what feel like the final days of the Don Mattingly Era.
Bailey Falter will get the ball Wednesday evening for the Phillies, who will look to clinch a series victory over Trevor Rogers and the Marlins.

- Jesús Luzardo limited the Phillies to four hits and two runs over seven innings, while striking out nine batters. Had he turned in the exact same start 15 years ago, he would have only given up one run, because the Posey Rule didn’t yet exist, nor did instant replay.
- After tonight’s start, Aaron Nola is tied with Kevin Gausman for the top fWAR (FanGraphs’ version of WAR) among all starting pitchers at 5.3. Sandy Alcántara, Carlos Rodón, Max Fried and Justin Verlander are also having great seasons based on the metric (and many metrics).
