Report: Phillies have an agreement with Kyle Schwarber

The Phillies have finally made a big move.

The team has an agreement with former Cubs, Nationals and Red Sox outfielder Kyle Schwarber, according to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Ken Rosenthal first mentioned that the Phillies and Schwarber were making progress.

Schwarber, 29, had his best season last year as a member of both the Nationals and Red Sox. He slashed .266/.374/.554 with 32 home runs and 71 RBIs in 2021. He thrived as an unconventional power leadoff hitter last season and it’s likely the Phillies will slot him in that spot considering how much the Phillies struggled to get production from the top of the order.

Update 10:00 a.m. ET: Jayson Stark has some details on the deal:

We’ll have more on this story as details become available.
