A meteoric season for right-hander Andrew Painter has been rewarded with the top honor for a Phillies prospect.

The 19-year-old power pitcher was named a Paul Owens Award winner, the club announced on Thursday, honoring Painter as the best minor-league pitcher in the Philadelphia system for the 2022 season. First baseman Darick Hall was selected as the Paul Owens Award recipient for the organization’s top position player in the minors.

Painter, a 2021 first-round pick, dazzled in his first full season as a professional. He began the year in Low-A Clearwater before earning a promotion to High-A Jersey Shore in June, then moved up to Double-A Reading in August. The 6-foot-7 starter posted a 1.56 ERA across 103 2/3 innings in 22 starts, cementing himself as one of the top pitching prospects in the sport and the brightest spot within the Phillies system.

Hall, 27, is in his sixth season with the organization. He hit 20 home runs for Triple-A Lehigh Valley through June 28 before getting the call to big leagues to replace the injured Bryce Harper as the team’s designated hitter. Hall found success against right-handed pitching in the majors as he hit nine home runs in 38 games with an .846 OPS. The left-handed power hitter has been back with the IronPigs since Aug. 23 and has an .855 OPS with 26 home runs in 93 minor-league games.
